Harrisburg, PA – Today, Governor Tom Wolf joined Main Street Hanover Executive Director Justine Trucksess and other community leaders on a tour of downtown Hanover celebrating the vibrancy of Pennsylvania’s historic communities.

“Communities like Hanover are the backbone of our commonwealth. They serve as a reminder of where we’re from and hold the key to our future,” said Gov. Wolf. “At the state, we take pride in providing support to organizations like Main Street Hanover. But, we also recognize that revitalization needs to be a grassroots initiative, with the organization relying on volunteers with extraordinary vision giving selflessly of their time.”

The Wolf Administration has supported Main Street Hanover’s initiatives to build a lively, welcoming downtown corridor through two grants totaling $100,750 for a façade improvement program and architectural study, as well as a $25,000 grant for a downtown streetscaping design and beautification study. A $1.4 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant will complement these efforts by transforming a key downtown building formerly occupied by Montgomery Ward into a multiuse building housing a restaurant and apartments. On the tour, Gov. Wolf visited several of the businesses supported by the façade grants and made stops at the Miscreation Brewing Company, the Hanover Area Arts Guild and the former Montgomery Ward building.

“Main Street Hanover has been working hard to improve downtown Hanover for the past 8 years. It is an honor to share that work and our plans for the future with Governor Wolf,” said Trucksess. “Following the 4-point Main Street Approach, this volunteer-driven effort supported by the Borough of Hanover and the Hanover Area Chamber of commerce, works closely with the downtown business community to improve the economic capacity of our community core.”

Main Street Hanover is one of 14 accredited Keystone Main Street Programs, a program coordinated by the Pennsylvania Downtown Center and managed through the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).
